CD147

CD147

  1. CD147 is also known as extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN) or Basigin (BSG).
  2. CD147 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily.
  3. CD147 has four different isoforms with different structures.

CD147 in Basic and Translational Research

  1. CD147 is significantly upregulated in cancers.
  2. CD147 on the surface of tumor cells can trigger the production of MMP (matrix metalloproteinase, a family of secreted, zinc-dependent endopeptidases capable of degrading extracellular matrix components).
  3. CD147 facilitates tumor invasion, growth, and metastasis.

Clinical Research about CD147 & HCC

  1. CD147 expression is positively correlated with HCC tumor size and pathological tumor-node-metastasis (pTNM) stages of HCC patients.
  2. CD147 promotes HCC invasion and metastasis by inducing the secretion of metalloproteinases particularly MMP-2 and MMP-9.
  3. MMPs represent the most critical step in tumor invasion and metastasis.
  4. Anti-CD147 antibody showed promising efficacy and safe in preclinical studies.
